Katittavik Community Center

Serving the Nunavik Community

Deliverables

In Kuujjuaraapik, the southernmost village in Nunavik, the regional government plans to build the Katittavik Cultural Center. Built on a sand dune at the mouth of the Great Whale River and Hudson Bay, this complex is intended to serve the 10,000 residents of the region’s 14 northern villages.

It features, among other things, a multipurpose space equipped with retractable seating. Carrying out the project presents significant logistical and financial challenges: construction costs there are nearly 300% higher than in southern Quebec. Furthermore, all materials and prefabricated components must be transported by sea—a portto-port journey spanning more than 4,000 km and requiring over a month of sailing.
