Built on the site of one of Quebec’s early academic halls, the Théâtre Hector-Charland became a key player in the cultural life of the Lanaudière region right from the start. The space is much sought after for its wonderful sense of intimacy in terms of acoustics and sight lines.
The major challenge was to design a performance space that would work right now for medium-sized productions but could later be turned into a larger room at reasonable cost. The final result is a warm, intimate auditorium with technical infrastructures that would be the envy of much larger showrooms.
The theatre received the Broadcaster of the Year Award in its first year of operation.
